The drama of redemption coupled with gracious providential acts and perfections of God were unpacked with careful intentionality to the inform the mind, capture the imagination, and invoke a deeper love for the Most High.

We grew in knowledge.
We were taught to love.
We built relationships.

Now we want to circle back around and celebrate what God has done in our lives with…a reunion! A reunion means food! Cookout food!

That’s right Fourth Friday Fundamentals is having a cookout! AND the hospitable host with the most is the ever zealous Nick Sebree!!

Four years ago, Fourth Friday Fundamentals set out on an ambitious path to spark a modern Reformation among the saints in the surrounding area. The ministry attempted to do this by taking a multifaceted approach to teaching doctrinal and practical topics.

The ministry is now gearing up for its 44th and last service for the foreseeable future. It would be a great blessing to have all our friends come out and join us as we bookend our previous topics by revisiting our topic on Sanctification.

What is Sanctification? What do the Scriptures mean and what do they require for the life of believers? What does it look like to grow in Grace, put to death the deeds of the flesh, or live in light of our future hope? Let’s talk about it!

GUEST ARTIST!!

CHRISTCENTRIC. This year the group has produced a provocative song that lyrically deals with the pro-life discussion from a biblical worldview. You can view the video here. With their newest release, the Ephesians Project, they produced the very first fully expositional project. Get it here

GUEST SPEAKER!!

Pastor Shane Walker from Andover Baptist Church! Andover Baptist Church is an assembly where the Bible is honored, the Lord is exalted, redemption through the blood is proclaimed, and where the comfort of the Scriptures is presented as a blessing to those who hear. Pastor Shane blogs here. His sermons are here.

Dear Friends,

Fourth Friday Fundamentals was strategically crafted to build up the body of Christ to the glory of God by teaching the foundational truths of the faith. To that end we have prayerfully sought the mind of God concerning the ministry. We have looked to the Lord to help us to select timely topics and how to unpack them in a way that might prove to be most beneficial. We are convinced that a lack of truth and a distortion of truth has always been an issue in the life of the church. We can go back to the debates in North Africa that suggested that Christ was merely a good example in the first ecumenical council in A.D. 325, and still further back to the distortion of Satan in the Garden of Eden, to see the assault on truth. In fact Scripture is replete with passages that speak of the effects truth decay has on the people of God.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Isaiah 5:13 Therefore my people go into exile for lack of knowledge; their honored men go hungry, and their multitude is parched with thirst.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Passages like these made us ever sensitive to the famine for truth [Amos 8:11-12] that surrounded us. Our hearts ached for our city and we longed to be a part what God would do with His truth through us. It has been our prayer that we would somehow play a part in the revival or reformation in our land, a revival that would stimulate a hunger for truth and a disdain for error. Over the last four years the Holy Spirit has been pleased to grant us tremendous opportunities to be used by God. And for those many opportunities we are ever so grateful. But more than just an open door to service, the Lord has open lives to us. We have been blessed to interact with so many wonderful people that it’s only fitting that we say we heartily praise God the saved and unsaved folks we have engaged.

Now we are at a point where we need to go back and seek the face of God concerning the ministry going forward, how He would have us to proceed and what that would look like. So instead of immediately returning in January 2012, FFF is going into prayer and prep mode. We want to be sure we are carefully and faithfully in tune with the pulse of God; therefore, we are going to take an extended break at the end of this year to consider the future of the ministry. As we do so, we solicit your prayers as well.

Grace & Peace,

The exciting truth of Christian Liberty cries out to believers of their freedom from the slave chains of sin and the looming shadow of God’s condemning wrath. It continues to exclaim of the free access saints have to the presence of God to render to Him the loving obedience of an adopted child. This truth preserves us from legalism and the wild eye frenzy of lawlessness. And it lays out for us a pattern of how we are to exercise our liberty in our Christian community. Come on out with questions and thoughts about the topic. Let’s discuss it, hash it out, and build together to the glory of God. Questions to consider: What is Christian Liberty? What is the historical background of the teaching? How should we exercise it? Why should we even be concerned about it?

Philip Graham Ryken has said the best way to listen to a sermon is, “With a soul that is prepared, a mind that is alert, a Bible that is open, a heart that is receptive, and a life that is ready to spring into action.” This month’s topic takes that into consideration as we talk through what we are calling “expository listening” or “expositional listening”.

Last month we looked at expository preaching which aims at making point of the passage the point of the sermon. Expository preaching as a philosophical approach structures the pastor’s preaching agenda around the meaning of Scripture.

So in like manner with expository listening the hearers of the message are actively, tuning in to the sermon for the purpose of hearing the message of God unpacked from revealed will of God (the Scriptures).
